Bloody Traffic (2024)

Our Entry for the 4-day GMTK Game Jam 2024 for the theme, "Built to Scale." I worked as a 3D and technical artist.

Help deliver oxygen to key organs by dodging and jumping over vehicles! Use speed to squeeze between tight spaces or to zip under moving obstacles.

Game Design

On day one, I prepared three game pitches that involved small scope ideas. We chose another idea by the end of the meeting, and I created a moodboard for different art aspects for the other artists to maintain a vision.

3D Asset Creation

The gameplay of our chosen concept involved a player car that can expand and become wide, or become fast and narrow. We wanted a range of background cars that allowed us to go over and under them because of this, so a team member prepared car concepts to be used. I selected these cars to be modelled because I felt that their silhouettes were most different from each other so they are easily distinguishable when moving around the city. Later on, we ended up using the bottom rightmost car as the player car because it looked the most like a "default" car which stood out amongst the other cars that looked more medical based.

In addition to cars, I also made city props to make the city look less repetitive. The setting took place inside someone's body so I made chunks of biology to stick props into in order to make "organic" prefabs.

Additional Work

I prepared the scenes by making particle systems (blood cells), setting up the lighting, and shaders (bloody puddles with size sliders and Fresnel materials).
